Validated patient-reported outcome measures, scored on a single 0–100 scale where 100 is best. Here’s which instruments BoneArc uses, what each measures, and where you read the results.
A PROM — patient-reported outcome measure — is a validated questionnaire a patient fills out about their own pain and function. BoneArc picks the right instrument for each patient’s body region, scores it, and plots it against published population norms so you can see recovery in numbers, not just impressions.
Every BoneArc PROM is scored the same way: 0–100, where 100 = best possible function. Higher is always better, whatever the instrument, so a knee score and a shoulder score read on the same scale.
BoneArc selects a validated instrument based on the patient’s procedure or body region:
KOOS Jr. for the knee (including meniscus). IKDC (IKDC Subjective Knee Form) for ACL / PCL and meniscectomy cases.
HOOS Jr. for the hip.
ASES for the shoulder, including rotator cuff and SLAP.
FAAM for the foot and ankle, including Achilles.
Quick DASH for the upper extremity — carpal, wrist, hand, and elbow.
LEFS (Lower Extremity Functional Scale) for cases such as femur, tibia, and fibula.
Spine cases are covered too: BoneArc uses ODI (Oswestry) for the low back and NDI (Neck) for the neck, both reported as a functional score on the same 0–100 scale.
Every instrument is normalized to 0–100, where 100 = best possible function. A higher number means better reported function — there’s no instrument where a lower score is “good.”
BoneArc counts a gain of 5 or more points from a patient’s first to their latest assessment as improvement. Each score is also compared to a published population norm for that instrument and interval, and labeled Above Norm, At Norm, Below Norm, or Well Below Norm.
Patients complete PROMs in the BoneArc iOS app. They’re collected at recovery time points — a Pre-Op baseline, then intervals across the recovery year such as 2 weeks, 6 weeks, 3 months, 6 months, and 12 months. Baseline plus a 12-month score gives a full recovery arc for a patient.
Open the PROMs tab (under WORK) for the panel-wide PROM Submissions viewer. Search by patient name or surgery type, expand a patient to read each submission, and see per-instrument analytics across your panel. You can also Export CSV from here.
For one patient, open Analytics › Patient Detail to see their PROM Score Trajectory vs. Published Norms plotted across their intervals, with the change between each check-in.
PROM scores are for clinical interpretation by licensed providers. They summarize how a patient reports their own function over time — a signal to read alongside the daily logs and your own assessment, not a diagnosis on their own.
